Compare their lifespan like a car’s transmission. A high shutter count is a clue that it might be nearing it’s end of life, but it’s repairable. Some cameras are rated for 100,000 photos on the shutter. Some 500,000. And just like a car, that number doesn’t mean it will break at that point. It’s just a guide for how many photos it’s designed to take before it breaks. It can definitely go more than that, but it might snap fewer. And there are ways to check the shutter count on used cameras, but it’s not always easy – Canon tends to hide that number for some reason for example.
